Gay network declares the end of \'Gay Bars\'

Gay network launches in the UK promising to \'replace the gay bar\' in UK towns and villages. Parliamentary candidate to comment and attend launch.

/24-7PressRelease.com/ -- The Parliamentary Candidate for Cheltenham UK (Conservatives) will comment and attend the launch event (contact VIP@Gaycheltenham.com).

GayCheltenham.com launches, backed by young entrepreneur Alex Sass (ex business partner of Ivan Massow and creator of worlds largest network for gay professionals). The project promises to expand across the UK holding events ONLY in exclusive 'straight' venues, predicting the end of the 'local gay bar' in regional England.

The project nicknamed GC publicly urges gay men and women to reject gay venues with their associated ‘adult environment’ and ‘sleazy entertainment’ to take part in a professional network holding weekly meetings in some of the world’s best bars. The chairman Alex Sass has returned from London, where he hosted over 100 events in world famous clubs including celebrity haunts Soho House, The Ivy, Century and Chinawhite, to provide a service he feels is “absolutely lacking for the tens of thousands of gay men and women in Gloucestershire forced to make social contact in some of the most dingy and insalubrious locations”. GayCheltenham.com will host regular evening parties in venues that are not usually on the ‘gay agenda’ introducing both singles and couples to places they may not have previously felt comfortable or welcome.

In Alex’s words “Most gay men and women find themselves segregated and under-serviced in towns and cities outside of our capital. I hope to show them that Cheltenham not only accepts gays but positively welcomes them to enjoy the most beautiful places we have to offer. Meeting a friend or partner is a daunting thing for those exploring or coming to terms with their sexuality in a town. Typically there are only one or two small clubs where the atmosphere can be rather overwhelming. I know that the level of homophobia a person endures is almost entirely irrational and that with the help of a service such as ours, people can escape the loop of the ‘scene’, finding that stereotypes and negative expectations really are a thing of the past. In London I hosted events for hundreds of people every week where my guests enjoyed the company of people irrespective of sexuality in an environment that was both welcoming and stylish. People living and working in Cheltenham can feel literally ‘trapped’ by the gay scene- something that affects every aspect of their lifestyle. GayCheltenham.com will change that- we are a very public, mature service that urges our clients to literally ‘come out of the dark’. The joy of my network is that it will set the way for a much wider acceptance on a broad level. I hope our guests feel comfortable enough to talk about the website with friends, invite their work colleagues, family and friends. Everyone is welcome- so long as they share our philosophy that the society we live in and enjoy is an open minded and welcoming one.”

The site also offers free links to a number of services for gay men and women including access to healthcare and charities supporting people who need a helping hand to enjoy their lifestyle in Gloucestershire. It is estimated that around 10% of the world’s population is gay- yet most towns including Cheltenham only offer one or maybe two venues for people to meet in a safe environment.

“It’s so hard to meet people who understand the challenges you face as someone who doesn’t fit the ‘average’ profile. We hope that by launching this service that journey becomes a little easier- and we’ll be on hand to ensure the events stand up as a truly enjoyable, sophisticated and welcoming chance to change that.” Alex Sass

Who is Alex Sass:

Alex Sass (26) grew up in Cheltenham, attending Pates Grammar School before heading to London to begin his career in Internet Technology and Event Management. Before launching GC he was co-director of OUTintheUK.com and founder of JakeTM.org two of the largest gay networks in Europe. He achieved notable success and local fame as the business partner of Ivan Massow (millionaire gay businessmen). Frequently featured in the gay press, Alex has even been noted (by OUTUK) as one of the ‘Gay Mafia’ something he finds both amusing and ridiculous! His first book “My Island is Beautiful” was published this year, written from the tiny island of Koh Lanta Yai (Thailand) where he spent three months in complete retreat before returning to his home town to launch this network. He states “I enjoyed financial success in London, but its here in places like my home town of Cheltenham, that my approach and philosophy will have a bigger impact. Gay people in London have choice- here they do not, it’s that simple. The initial reaction to GayCheltenham.com has been tremendously encouraging, both from members and the towns best venues who are more than ready to welcome my guests”.

Events will be held every Wednesday (it breaks up the working week!) from 18:00 to 23:00. Membership is free of charge, although a VIP option will be made available later in the year. Exchanges with similar events in London and New York will also be offered to Cheltenham guests. The project has rejected initial offers of commercial sponsorship and refuses all forms of adult content. GayCheltenham.com is designed to be acceptable for viewing even in the office.

Gay Population

The resident population of Cheltenham, as measured in the 2001 Census, was 110,013
The National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles (Wellings et al 1994) suggested that 7% are not heterosexual. We suggest a conservative figure of around 7000 gay men and women in Cheltenham (less than the 10% usually suggested).
