Wicked Jezabel Makes History Again as the First All Female/ All Gay Band to Win the "Fan Favorite" Award at Washington Area Music Association Awards Show

Wicked Jezabel, the DC area's premiere all-female party band, made history again and proved they are a force to be reckoned with at last night's Washington Area Music Association awards show (known as the WAMMIES) by winning the "Fan Favorite" award for 2008 over some stiff competition.

WASHINGTON, DC, February 18, 2009 /Gay and Lesbian PR News/ -- Wicked Jezabel, the DC area's premiere all-female party band, made history again and proved they are a force to be reckoned with at last night's Washington Area Music Association awards show (known as the WAMMIES) by winning the "Fan Favorite" award for 2008 over some stiff competition. It is the second time that the Nation's Capital music award organization has honored Wicked Jezabel. The WAMMIES presented awards Sunday, Feb 15th, 2009 at the State Theatre in Falls Church, VA. Last year, peers and fellow musicians recognized Wicked Jezabel by voting for them to win the "Best Hard Rock" award for 2007 and were runner's up to Fools & Horses in the "Fan Favorite" category for 2007.

This year their fans are recognizing them by voting in the only category at the WAMMIES that is open to the public as well as to WAMA voting members. Wicked Jezabel has always been about their fans and last night they proved that their fans are also all about Wicked Jezabel. Pauline Anson Dross (vocals, guitar) said last year at the WAMMIES, "Without fans - there is no band."

Davi Anson Dross (vocals, percussion) accepted the award. "This is so cool. Last year, we got it for hard rock - and that was excellent - but when the fans tell you - you know its true." Pauline was moved to sing, "Feels like the first time!" and then added "Thank you so much, winning the Fan Favorite award is exactly what we are all about. It's all about the fans." Wicked Jezabel will join the likes of Fools & Horses and Scythian, past winners voted on by the public as Fan Favorite. They will also make history as the first ever all female band and first ever gay band to be recognized in this category.

All members of the band seemed taken by this experience. Gwen Frederick (drums) was tense when it came to the results. "My heart was pounding with each band announced, and my first thought was, Wow! What if we didn't make the top five? It is so wonderful to be voted on by our fans. It seemed like an eternity before they said the words Wicked Jezabel and I held my breath for every minute of it. It was really exiting to win and for the second time! It feels great," Ginger Starling (vocals, keys). Mickey Dehn (vocals, bass) says, "It's always an honor to be in the company of talented musicians. It's stupefying to be recognized as one of them." Sandy Dumas (vocals, guitar) adds, "It's so gratifying to see that all of the hard work we put into the project really has an impact and that people enjoy what we do. To get recognition like this is icing on the cake."

Wicked Jezabel has received messages from fans in Great Britain, France, Italy, Canada, India, and the Philippines, as well as across the USA, saying they voted and are sending their best wishes. Marlene Peterson, formerly of the legendary female band Vixen, has even billed Wicked Jezabel as "The World's Most Loveable Band!"

Wicked Jezabel couldn't have done this without some very special folks filling in for them from time to time: Lisa Taylor (who also picked up a WAMMIE in the Folk - Contemporary Recording category for her new CD True North which features Pauline Anson Dross on "Brave Me"), Lisa Lim (nominated in Blues/Traditional R&B Recording), Pat Quinn, and Gina DeSimone. Also to note Wicked Jezabel sound crew: Elaine Giles and Jeanette Bryner.

Wicked Jezabel will be hosting a fan appreciation tour for all those that made this award possible. For more information on Wicked Jezabel and their upcoming tour please visit: http://www.wickedjezabel.com.
